Jordan Cox - Round 1 TCR, Symmons Plains

2021 has kicked off with a bang for Jordy Cox starting with round 1 of TCR Australia at Symmons Plains and we caught up with him for a quick chat to recount the week and a half he spent in Tasmania.

Jordan - “ The car was on pace all weekend but we gave it a bit of a tune up in practice. Came away from quali in P2 after a sketchy start to the session caused be a change in rear brake pads which threw the brake balance out, thankfully it came on song towards the end of the session so we could put a time down.

Starting Race 1 from the front row I lead the 18 car field into turn one before Lee slipped past at T6. Hung in there and matched the pace for the remainder of the race but just couldn’t find an opportunity to squeeze back into P1. Starting Race 2 from P2 again we got the jump on the start and once again led the field into T1. It was an action packed race with a couple of bumps and bruises at the start but we came away with the win. My first in TCR and I banked a few lap records once I was in clean air.

Unfortunately my teammate Michael Caruso had a tap with the wall coming into T1 so I jumped on the tools and helped the GRM mechanics get his car back on track for Race 3. We got the jump again and lead the race for the most part. Crossed the line in P2 but a 5 second penalty for Lee handed us the P1. Not the way I like to win but it’s a win nonetheless. We packed up the truck and headed to the invitational round at Baskerville. A total of 5 TCR cars made the trip down for what was a casual but unbelievably fun couple of days racing. Just the way I like it. I cant wait for the rescheduled Phillip island for round 2 in a couple of weeks if we can keep covid away.
