#project86 lockdown update

Coming upto week 10 of the Sydney lockdown (8 weeks since I’ve been able to work) I thought I would update you all on some of the work that's been done on #project86. So much freetime has left me with too much time snapping up bargains on marketplace, researching and ofcourse installing mods. I’ve always been go fast bits first, aesthetics later with this car but with this track hiatus I've shifted to some cosmetic mods as well.

Just before the lockdown we fitted a factory aero front bumper. Given this car came from the factory as an aero car before the bumper was swapped out by the previous owner it seems fitting having one back on the car. I love the aggressive look too!

The last thing we did before being locked in was the AP brake kit. Originally it was just the front 4 pot kit but last week I picked up the rear 2 pot kit to match! Very excited to test these on track and give you all a bit of a review.

The first couple of things we did (not pictured) once we were locked in included cleaning up and removing some sub and amp wiring from the previous owner, removing all the seatbelts and mounting from the back seat, finding a much better functioning factory headunit from our friend Anthony and quietening the IRP shifter up with some car builders foam.

Continuing with the interior, I swapped in a facelift BRZ cluster with the digital screen. I’ll do a full write up here once I've received the buttons from Gerald Just Projects to toggle between menus and screens to show you the ease of install and the functionality of the screens!

As it turns out I'm slowly mixing my favourite parts of the pre and post facelift 86/BRZ’s to build the car that I like. The next step of that was picking up some facelift headlights and tail lights. I’ve wanted these since I bought the car but I've never been able to justify the price people were asking. I found a set of front and rear lights for a reasonable price so on they went and they’re awesome! The LED headlights are definitely better than the pre facelift GTS units and having an LED indicator in the headlight isn't only more visible but it will also allow us to delete the fog and indicators from the front bar…

While the bumper was off to fit the headlights I took the opportunity to finally move the oil cooler into the grill opening for more airflow. You can read more here if you’re interested.

Having full LED headlights and tail lights made the halogen accessory lights stick out even more. 86LED sell a comprehensive sweet of LED globes for the 86/BRZ and in 5-10 minutes we were fully LED (except the courtesy and vanity lights because I thought that was overkill)

Hopefully the postman brings our last couple of mods before I go back to working from home later in the month so we’re set to jet as soon as tracks open again.

I’m very proud of how the cars coming together now. It’s the first car i’ve owned that modified this extensively and it’s coming together better than I had hoped. Let’s hope it goes as good as it looks!
