Michael Sherwell - The 40 year old rookie.

Michael Sherwell is a 40 year old dad and business owner who, in a weeks time, will make his national level motorsport debut when the Supercars calendar stops for round one at Bathurst. Sherwell will be racing in the TGRA 86 Series which has historically been a breeding ground for young guns to make the jump to tin tops from Karts or Formula Ford.

But alongside the hot young talent, the 86 Series has created a stage for an older generation of racers to have some fun on the big stage without committing big bucks to a national level race series.

After spending last season racing in the Production Touring Series Michael racked up some precious race miles with mentoring from our very own Tim Brook. He now feels ready to take on the super competitive TGRA 86 Series.

Michel is the sort of guy who throws himself into the deep-end with an all-or-nothing attitude, a self-confessed adrenaline junkie. He’s been a fan of motorsport for as long as he can remember and racing is clearly in his genes “my father was a keen motorbike racer in the ‘70s… He told me I’d need to learn to fix it before I could ride”.

This passion led Michael to try his hand at all sorts of sports including surfing, snowboarding and even freestyle motorcross. The TGRA 86 Series won’t be Michael’s first time competing at a top level either, having reached far up the ladder of just about everything he’s put his hand to.

With set-up and coaching from our man Tim Brook and some serious testing under his belt at Challenge Bathurst, Michael has already proven he has the outright pace to be competitive in the TGRA 86 grid. Soon we’ll find out how well he can put that theory into practice.
