NSW Supersprint Round 2 recap.

After a threatening week long weather forecast for torrential rain I was delighted to arrive at SMSP for round 2 of the NSW Zestino Supersprints to find clear weather. Being the morning after WTAC I expected the track to be fairly rubbered up, however a heap of oil spills and clean up from the previous night left the track feeling pretty greasy.

Round 2 was on the North Circuit layout which is great, I felt I had unfinished business after we ran at North at Subinats with a pretty lackluster time. If I could implement some knowledge Tyler taught me on GP I was guaranteed to pull some time out of my PB.

I was extremely unprepared coming into the event which is embarrassing to admit. Being away for work for almost 2 weeks, resigning from my day job and working at WTAC meant that I hadn’t touched the car at all since I parked it up on the night of Subinats.

Coming in after the first session I had taken almost a second of my previous Subinats time which was a handy confidence boost. As per usual Tyler had me beat and comfortably secured P1 for himself while I trailed in P2.

I spent the next couple of sessions trying to refine some lines and push a little deeper. The car in P3 in our class had rapidly found some time and was only 3 tenths behind me heading into the last session. Tyler and I looked over some data and in car and identified a couple of key areas for me to work on in the last session.

I came away from the last session pulling almost another half a second with a 1:14.86 and securing my spot in P2. Still a second slower than Tyler which given his history of racing V8 Supercars and formula cars, i’m ok with being the bridesmaid. Overall a great result for team PVS!

Going over the data and in car video with Tyler post event it’s pretty clear where the rest of the time lies which is convenient given round 3 of the series is back on the North Circuit later in May!

Toyota 86 SMSP Data Analysis

Here’s some data between the 1:16.3 and the 1:4.8 for my fellow nerds. The top box is lateral G’s, second box well i’m not entirely sure what that is. Third box is distance/time which is the chart I usually show and the bottom shows where the time gain/loss actually is.

It’s been awesome getting so much seat time at SMSP lately and it feels awesome becoming so comfortable in all the fast stuff, skills and knowledge that will be transferable to all tracks and circuits.

I’ll be chasing a bit of setup over the next couple of weeks to address the low speed drive. Other than that i'm very happy with the car at the moment. It needs a bit of a cosmetic birthday and a really good once over with a spanner but other than that it’s awesome which is such a testament to the ZN6 platform!
